BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) — Pollution from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear power plants are not threatening China’s territorial waters, China’s maritime authority said on Thursday.

A State Oceanic Administration press release said radioactive contaminants were detected in waters and fish in the ocean southeast of Fukushima, but that no impact on Chinese waters had been reported.

The latest data was collected via a 40-day monitoring of the Western Pacific Ocean conducted by the administration from April to June.

The administration has carried out regular monitoring of the ocean since the Fukushima nuclear accident in March 2011.

Was Tokyo Olympics Bid Fixed by the International Olympic Committee’s Nuclear Lobby? []

I don’t see how anyone could hear of this decision and NOT think “WTF!?!” – Zuo Shou

The lame acquiescence of International Olympic Committee to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s blatant lies about Fukushima radiation leaks being “under control” is an act of reckless negligence on the health risk to young athletes aiming for a spot at the 2020 Olympics.

The Olympic hosting rights was stolen from safer and better-off candidate cities Istanbul and Madrid by a well-financed lobbying effort from Japan’s national committee and the Education and Sports Ministry, which provides murky donations for sports programs in developing countries.

The hidden factor behind Tokyo’s campaign of radiation denial was the quiet support from the global nuclear industry acting through the IOC’s corporate sponsorship program. The political influence and corruption behind this campaign was so obvious that even the semi-governmental NHK television news has raised questions about bribery in the bidding process…

A silver lining to the US gov’t shutdown!!! – Zuo Shou

TOKYO, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Japan’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday that joint military drills scheduled between Japan and the United States had been canceled due to a budget standoff that the U.S. Congress has yet to resolve.

According to local media, Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Forces (GSDF) were scheduled to take part in joint military training exercises with U.S. Army personnel between Oct. 15 and 28 at the Ojojihara Maneuver Area in Miyagi prefecture.

Around 1,000 personal were due to take part in the training exercises, which were to involve live fire and drills to prepare for chemical, biological nuclear attacks with divisions specialized in these areas from both sides aiming to boost their organization and preparedness for such occurrences, local media reports said.

Officials from Japan’s GSDF said that they were informed by officials from the U.S. Army that the drills would be canceled due to the budget standoff in Washington.

The defense ministry here said that it hoped further joint exercises would go ahead as scheduled and not be impacted by the budget impasse.

The Ojojihara Maneuver Area has often been utilized for joint drills between Japan and the United States, including for combat readiness of Marines and for live fire and small arms training.

Such training exercises are held as part of the U.S.-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security.

The defense ministry voiced its concern on Tuesday that the partial federal shutdown in the United States — as President Barack Obama and Congress remain at loggerheads over the world’s largest economy’s debt ceiling — could affect future joint exercises.

The level of concern has been raised by the International Monetary Fund’s head, Christine Lagarde, referring to the impasse as critical and warning the United States that if it fails to raise its debt ceiling before it defaults on Oct. 17 then a global financial crisis worse than that seen in 2008 could be triggered.
