PYONGYANG, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) saw a quiet National Day on Thursday as the world was busy making speculation on the coming conference of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), the first of its kind in 44 years.

Though a state banquet is declared to be served at People’s Palace of Culture later in the day, Xinhua reporters saw virtually no celebrations held in Pyongyang.

Under early fall sunshine, the bronze sculpture of late leader Kim Il Sung in the center of Pyongyang had already been piled with baskets of flowers with the biggest one presented by incumbent leader Kim Jong Il, Kim Il Sung’s son.

Workers, students, soldiers … people from all walks of life, some of whom were in national costumes, queued in long line in front of the sculpture, waiting to present flowers to the former leader, also founder of the country.

The nearby Kim Il Sung Square, where thousands of people rehearsed group performance in the past few days, went empty, with only several workers repairing the damaged parts of the ground.

National flags were fluttering on street lampposts.  The passengers-by and cars on the streets were fewer than usual as people were taking National Day holidays at home.  However, a number of stalls were set up on pavements, selling soft drinks and socks.

PYONGYANG, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) confirmed Friday that South Korean priest Han Sang Ryol was arrested immediately after crossing the Military Demarcation Line (MDL).

The official KCNA news agency reported that when Han crossed the line with a Korean Peninsula flag in his hand at 3 p.m. local time, South Korean plain-clothed agents handcuffed him and took him away.

Before his departure from the DPRK, people from all walks of life, youth and students went to see him off. Han waved bouquets and chanted slogans — “national reunification” and “by our nation itself” — at the truce village of Panmunjom, the KCNA said.

Han, lauded as a pro-reunification figure by the DPRK media, arrived in Pyongyang on June 12 and visited various places and met different people in the DPRK.

The Red Cross Society of the DPRK has sent two notices to the South Korean Red Cross, asking them to guarantee the safety of Han after his return.

But the South Korean authorities said they did not approve Han’s return to South Korea through the MDL.

Anniversary of DPR Korea Victory over U.S. in Fatherland Liberation War Observed, Public Dancing Parties Held – PHOTOS [KCNA]

Pyongyang, DPR Korea's capital held dancing parties of youth and students to celebrate 57th Anniversary of Victory in Fatherland Liberation War against the U.S. - July 27, 2010

Anniversary of Victory in Fatherland Liberation War Observed

Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) — July 27 means the day of the second liberation for the army and people of the DPRK as they defeated the U.S. imperialists and honorably protected the sovereignty of the country under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung.  It is, at the same time, the day of glory that makes the generations to come cherish the precious legacy of victory to be glorified by them, always remembering it.

Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in a by-lined article.

It goes on:

The above-said victory constitutes a shining victory won thanks to the outstanding military idea, strategy and tactics and extraordinary commanding art of the President, the founder of the Songun idea and the pioneer of the revolutionary cause of Songun.  It is a signal victory won thanks to the heroic struggle of the Korean People’s Army, the heir to the Songun traditions established in the period of the anti-Japanese struggle, and the army-people unity attained on the road of Songun.

Recalling that the Korean people have won one victory after another with the might of Songun in the stand-off with the U.S. imperialists for more than half a century since the ceasefire of the Korean War, the article notes that this was attributable to the outstanding Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.

This leadership finds its manifestation in the fact that he equipped all the servicepersons and people with the Juche-based view on a war and turned the whole country into an impregnable fortress in view of the situation where the state of cease-fire persisted.  His leadership proved to be an immortal one as he decisively smashed the persistent war moves of the U.S. imperialists and fully demonstrated the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of the nation before the world and brilliant one as he wrote a heroic epic of creation and change, prevailing over imperialism in all fields including politics, diplomacy, economy and culture.

It was thanks to Songun that the army and people of the DPRK could frustrate the ideological and cultural poisoning and psychological warfare perpetrated by the imperialists against them through the revolutionary ideological offensive and foil the imperialists’ sanctions against the DPRK by dint of the army-people unity and self-reliance and dash ahead like the wind towards a thriving nation.

The drive for building a thriving nation in the DPRK is one to build a great power having invincible national power in all fields including politics, military affairs, economy and culture.  It is like a final do-or-die battle for finally shattering the moves of the U.S. imperialists for a war of aggression.

It is possible to win a victory in the final do-or-die battle with imperialism only when a strong country with invincible national power emerges as early as possible not only in the political and military fields but in the economic field.

It is necessary to bring about great innovations and leap forward in all sites for building a thriving nation under the banner of Songun in order to win the final victory in the Songun revolution.  The day of victory like July 27 will always be in store for the Korean people following the road of Songun.

Dancing Parties Held

Pyongyang, July 27 (KCNA) — Dancing parties of youth and students took place in different parts of the country on Tuesday to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

Such venues of dancing parties as plazas before the April 25 House of Culture, the Arch of Triumph and the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium were alive with youth and students who gathered with the joy at celebrating the day.

They presented dances to the tune of songs, looking back on the immortal exploits President Kim Il Sung performed by leading the war to victory with his Juche-oriented military idea, war methods, outstanding strategy and commanding art, thus fully demonstrating the dignity of the country and the nation and setting a world example in the anti-imperialist revolutionary wars.

They enthusiastically danced full of conviction that only victory and glory are in store for the army and people of the DPRK making the exploits performed by him in the war shine forever true to the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

The atmosphere at the dancing parties picked up when the melodies of songs “Ours is the Song of Victory” and “Nilliri of Songun” reverberated far and wide.

The venues were permeated with the firm determination of members of the young vanguard to mercilessly wipe out the enemies to protect the honor of Songun Korea if the aggressors pounce upon them just as the young people did during the war.

On the same day, similar events took place in various parts of the country including Phyongsong, Kanggye, Hamhung and Wonsan.
